Amanda Degand, 26 of Arcadia, Okla., was killed Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 west of Tucumcari.

State police officers from Tucumcari responded to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover just before 7 a.m. Upon the officers’ arrival, they learned that Roney Meyers, 25 of Oklahoma City, was driving eastbound on Interstate 40 near mile marker 311 in a 2008 Toyota Prius when he drifted off the roadway. Meyers struck a guardrail on the north side of the interstate, ricocheted back across I-40 into another guardrail, and subsequently rolled numerous times. During the rolling momentum Amanda Degand was thrown from the vehicle and later died as a result of severe trauma.

Driver Meyers and passenger Charles Degand, 37 of Arcadia, Okla., were transported to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Quay County for injuries they sustained in the crash. Amanda Degand was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is not listed as a contributing factor in the crash.
