The two previous editorials, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 have been used to tear down “Obama care” and in the process imply that “Conservacare” is superior.
The constant chant is ‘the market can do it better.’ The health care system we have had forever has been money driven market. According to the World Health Organization, our system ranks 37th in the world and we are the only advanced country that has millions uninsured and allow 30,000 plus die per year due to no insurance and our system was by far the most expensive in the world.
The new health care plan does not take over the health care industry as is often stated in conservative propaganda. The objective was to make health care more affordable and put some controls on the insurance industry. In order for the plan to work, everyone has to be insured or those that opt out will let the rest of us pick up the tab for their bill.
The Feb. 9 editorial elaborated how Reagan could walk on water. When Reagan took office the deficit was $74 billion, debt $930 billion, in two years deficit was $208 billion and in 1988 debt was $2.6 trillion. Now the conservatives are wringing their hands over government spending except for tax cuts for the rich.
Wake up people.
