This grass fire started at 2:40 p.m., Sunday one mile south of San Jon on the west side of State Highway 469. The fire jumped the highway and began spreading east, forcing the New Mexico Department of Public safety to shut down traffic on 469 for 30 minut

A fire one mile south of San Jon burned several acres of dry grasslands.

Highway 469 has reopened after San Jon firefighters extinguished a grass fire Sunday afternoon. Assistant Fire Chief Craig Brashear said the fire spanned about 50 acres and that the cause of the fire is undetermined.
