A 20-year-old Tucumcari man named as a "person of interest" in a local homicide has been arrested on an unrelated charge.

New Mexico State Police on Monday arrested 20 year-old Randall Jones for a probation violation, said state police Sgt. Tim Q. Johnson.

Police sought Jones as a person of interest in the homicide of 33-year-old Shirley Pacheco, but no charges have been filed in connection with the slaying.

Johnson said Jones was arrested in Tucumcari without incident.

Johnson said officers discovered Pacheco's body about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at her home on on Arapahoe Street in Tucumcari.

Initially, police called the case a suspicious death.

Johnson declined to release the cause of death. He said interest in Jones came after two search warrants were executed Sunday on a vehicle and residence in Tucumcari.

Pacheco is the sister of Jason Pacheco, a 31-year-old Tucumcari man who was shot and killed on Feb. 1, 2007, during a struggle in downtown Tucumcari. A Curry County jury found Socorro resident James Burleson innocent on June 11, 2009, of voluntary manslaughter in connection with Jason Pacheco’s death.

Anyone with information about Shirley Pacheco's death can contact the New Mexico State Police at 461-3300.
