Lawrence

Marshall Lawrence and Diana Antunez of Tucumcari are the proud parents of a 6 pound-14 ounce beautiful baby girl, Jayden Lee M. Lawrence. She was born Aug. 26, 2011, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Her grandparents are Marshall and Maria Lawrence and Dora Moriel all of Tucumcari.

Strong

Stan and Clair Strong would like to announce the birth of their new daughter, Christa Grace Strong, born on Aug. 10, 2011, in Amarillo, Texas. She weighed 7 punds, 6 ounces and was 20 inches. She has brothers, Jaegar and Park, and sisters, Heidi and AnnMarie, who all adore her. She is also the granddaughter of Robert and Gay Strong of Portales and Worth and Kathy Smelser of Cuba and Julia Smelser of Las Cruces. She has one great grandmother, Jane Strong of Tucumcari.

Club notes

Altrusa International

Altrusa International of Tucumcari is pleased to announce that their annual Cash Party is Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Quay County Exhibition Center.

Tickets to this event are $100. Three hundred tickets will be sold and the last number drawn will win $15,000. The runner-up will also win $500, and every 25th number called will win a door prize worth at least $100.

Proceeds of this event will benefit Altrusa community service projects.

“Buying a cash party ticket guarantees an investment in our community, promises a fun filled evening and is a chance to win $15,000,” Altrusa President Lou Briscoe said. “Altrusa appreciates the donations of local merchants and ticket purchasers who have made this a successful for more than 30 years.”

Altrusa will use the proceeds from the Cash Party to fund various projects, including, to promote literacy, to fund college scholarships, to beautify Dunn Park, and to support non-profit organizations such as, Main Street Landscaping, Helping Hands Hospice, the Hospital Auxiliary, the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches, Ronald McDonald Houses, Art Space, the Summer Reading Program at the Tucumcari Public Library, and Relay for Life.

Recently Altrusa purchased a mobile baby scale and capes for mammograms for Trigg Hospital, and distributed 140 books to students at Tucumcari Elementary School during registration.

The theme for this year’s Cash Party is “Share a Touchdown with Altrusa!” Attendees to the event are encouraged to wear football jerseys, showing their support for their favorite team.

Barbecue will be served at the event and will be catered by the Altrusa Club. A dance will follow the Cash Party at 9 p.m. and music by the band Limited Edition. Altrusa would also like to thank the Quay County Exhibit Center for providing their facilities at no cost to the Club.

Otero

Sisters Emily, left, and Melanie Otero celebrated their birthdays together Aug. 27 at the Elks Lodge Swimming Pool. Emily will be 6 years old on today and Melanie will be 2 years old on Sept. 4. Their parents are Gino and Miquela Otero of Tucumcari. Emily and Melanie have one older sister, Gracie Otero. Grandparents are Charlie Valverde, Judy Martinez and Gene and Evelyn Otero. Great Grandparents are Vera Cordova and Rose Otero.
