House FFA members Wyatt Bishop, Kayleigh Fury, Summer Huizar and Trenton Lee won first place in recently the State Ag Sales Team Competition.

This group went in and competed as seventh-graders and won first place. I'm so proud of these students. Unfortunately, they are too young to compete at nationals this year. However, they informed me that they will be winning again next year at which point they will be old enough to compete at the national level.

The purpose of the Agriculture Sales Career Development Event is to provide an individual with the basic skills to take advantage of the career opportunities offered in the agricultural sales field.

Sales are an essential part of a market economy. Agricultural products benefit from sales skills, both for inputs for production and the marketing of the products.

The contest has four parts:

• Team Sales Situation — Students work as a team to develop a sales strategy or plan for a product.

• Written Test Sales Call — Students call on a judge and demonstrate proper sales techniques.

Sales Situation - Students have to take a phone order or deal with an irate customer.
