Patsy Gresham has been appointed to be the Quay County Treasurer to fill out the term vacated by the resignation of elected treasurer Nadine Angel, which ends Dec. 31, 2016.
Angel said she is resigning for personal reasons.
Gresham, executive director for the Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce, was appointed to the position Friday by a unanimous vote of the Quay County Commmission.
She will being training with Angel, who last day is May 31, to learn the duties of the county treasurer.
Gresham was appointed Friday after the commission interviewed five finalists for the position in a closed executive session.
When the commission opened the meeting to the public, District 1 Commissioner Sue Dowell moved to appoint Gresham to the position. District 2 Commissioner Mike Cherry seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Franklin McCasland, the commission chair, said commissioners had a tough time selecting a new treasurer from the five finalists. Each of the finalists had an impressive resume, he said.
“Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you commissioners and serve the residents of the county,” Gresham said to the commissioners Friday after her appointment. “I appreciate the trust that you all have put into me. I can’t wait to be a part of your family.”
“I look forward to working with you,” Cherry said to Gresham.
Gresham, has served as the chamber director for four years after retiring in 2011 as the Central New Mexico district manager for Wells Fargo, where she had worked for 38 years.
“I have truly enjoyed my time working at the Chamber,” Gresham said.
Besides Gresham, the finalists were Christine Moriel, Diann Morrow, Robin Alden and Perri Jennings.
